Whether it’s having a baby or adopting a child, family caregiving responsibilities or financial anxiety, many employees have challenges they bring with them to the workplace.
The National Business Group on Health, a 501c3 organization comprised of human resources and benefits thought leaders from some of the most progressive companies around the world, and Unum, the nation’s largest employee benefits company, have joined forces to produce a public service announcement to urge workers to reach out to their employers for assistance and to better understand their benefits.
Unum recently conducted research among new parents to better understand some of their challenges and found:
In addition to that, millions of working adults have caregiving responsibilities for an immediate family member. An Unum study found 58% of caregivers are caring a parent or in-law with the remaining caregivers caring for a spouse or an adult child. 75% have taken paid time off (PTO) or called in sick to care for a family member.
The 60- and 30-second TV PSAs reminds workers that many leading companies have resources to help, like employee assistance programs, family leave or even disability insurance. These benefits can help provide peace of mind during stressful times and make coming to work a little easier.
